This is just a quick update to let you know that I am joining the “You Comment, I Follow” aka “dofollow” movement. This movement has been going on for awhile now. If you don’t know, urls/links in blog comments are not crawled by search engines due to the “nofollow” tag automatically added to them. This is not fair to those who comment on those blogs because it blocks them from getting link love or “Google Juice“.
If you want to participate in this movement, you can find out more about it here & download the WordPress plugin that goes along with it there as well. You can find the “U Comment, I Follow” badges (as pictured above) here. There’s also a plugin for Movable Type as well, if you use that.
If you’re up for it, there’s a more involved, feature rich “dofollow” WordPress plugin here as well. This one supposedly helps decrease the amount of spam comments you receive. The thing about this plugin though, is that it does not follow first time commenters, so be aware of that.
So, by joining this movement, I’m helping you guys since every time you comment on my blog (and include a link) you will be gaining a new backlink to your blog! So with that being said, comment away & I hope you’ll join this movement as well. Us bloggers do need to stick together.
Feverish Thoughts has a great ongoing list of dofollow bloggers. If you decide to join the movement, head over there so that you can get your blog added as well. You should also check out & comment on some of the other blogs that are in the movement as well. She also has a few badges on her site also for you to use!
Technorati Tags: you comment, i follow, do follow, no follow, link love, back link, google juice, movement
Interesting I Was wondering if they were crawling those links.
Thanks for the Tip.
I have also joined the dofollow movement.
I think bloggers today write a lot more than they read. I think we must all realize that blogging is about reaching out to readers. It is also about realizing that the readers are themselves writers with their own ideas.
I find it a learning experience to follow my readers who leave comments to read their posts.

Nice blog…
Thank you Mobil!
I hope so too Kingston! The more blogs that follow, the better!
I really do think that the no follow movement is opening up the world of blogs. It allows for a greater varierty of comments as well! Now anyone can comment on your blog and will not be offput by the no follow status. ALL HAIL DO FOLLOW
Lesley
I totally agree Lesley! Thank you for stopping by!
With the increasing popularity of “do follow” blogs, i think wordpress should include this plugin preloaded just like Akismet. I am happy to see the long list of green blogs(I say “do follow” blogs green) because we can build a better list for a better place.

I’ve seen in the last year (mostly) a big do-follow movement of bloggers, who prefer to offer something in exchange for the people spend their time and read / comment on their blogs.
I wonder if it is worth it to join do follow blog movement? Please let me know. Thanks!

The do follow is a good technique to increase the page rank.. But the page rank updation doesn’t prove to be proper and the pages with less traffic are allotted with page ranks greater than the pages with more traffic.. I cant get the working behind..??

I think is a good thing. You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours…
This feature seems to me that it was a good implementation, because many people abusing it. Thanks for the article.
Thanks for the heads up. Well we can’t blame search engines for doing so because there are many spammers out there. But I still believe that we do good more than those spammers and search engines must reconsiderate this no follow technique.

Thanks, this follow techniques are great…
Some people along with the dofollow plugin also install the SEO super comments plugin..
that plugin is evil.. it denies us a backlink from the page we commented on..
just thought i’d warn you folks

Hi chacha,
Dofollow is good but unfortunately as Google continues to refine their algorithm to discount spammy links and moves toward semantic search, and considering that most blogs have a low pagerank, I don’t foresee the benefit of do follow links continuing much longer. I also think this will contribute to Google losing relevance as eventually the only search results you will get are for mega conglomerate organizations that have been around forever.

Jessica

I have been Do-Follow for some time now, you do have to delete a few extra spam comments now and again but it’s worth it to pay back the people that take the time to comment.

sorry to dig up an old post, but is commentluv still widespread? i am finding less and less blogs that have commentluv enabled! (its a cool thing when your latest blog post gets added automatically to the comments you leave!)
jonathan´s last blog ..map of where i think we will go
@Jonathan No I don’t think it’s that widespread anymore. I really don’t see it on too many blogs that I visit but I still think it’s a nice feature myself.
It seems that ‘no follow’ links are still of great value in that Search Engines will still consider that site as a gateway to further sites which might otherwise not be discoverable by the Search Engine Spider. This still makes the remote sites more “findable” to search engines.
I can see that you are putting a lot of time and effort into your blog and detailed articles! I am deeply in love with every single piece of information you post here. Will be back often to read more updates!
