Twitter is the Best Place to Complain about Your Web Hosting

For the record, Twitter is the best place to complain about basically anything, but just from a recent personal experience I’m focusing on web hosting. I was doing some extensive updating on this blog last week and I kept running into slow loading problems; in some cases, the page wouldn’t load at all. I came to the conclusion that this was due to my web hosting service, which is GoDaddy. Out of frustration, I decided to send out a tweet expressing my disdain towards GoDaddy. I then went searching on Google for a replacement web hosting service. I came across a few, but nothing that really jumped out at me.

I currently pay what I consider to be a very affordable monthly fee (at GoDaddy) for web hosting. I have unlimited domains, one click WordPress installation as well as many other great features. It’s just a pain to have to deal with slow loading pages because I know how impatient visitors can be. If a page takes more than 5 seconds to load, most people will start to get frustrated and more than likely just go to another website.

Seeing that I couldn’t find anything that peaked my interest, I just dealt with my issues and then left it at that. The next morning I woke up to a pleasant @mention from the official GoDaddy Twitter account. I was pretty impressed with their fast response and eagerness to help. I didn’t @mention them in my original tweet, so they’re obviously monitoring Twitter for any type of mentions of their name or web hosting in general. They asked me to follow them back so that they could help me further via DM.

You can count on Twitter for customer service.

Long story short, they checked on some things on the backend and then gave me some suggestions for speeding up the pages on my blog. I was satisfied and (for the time being) the problem has been solved. So far I have not been having any other web hosting issues, so I guess I’ll just play it by ear. It’s very hard to find a good WordPress hosting service, plus switching services can often be a pain since it involves taking your site offline for a short period. I’m hoping to stick with GoDaddy for as long as I can.

Twitter seems to be the best method of customer service now-a-days. You can almost guarantee that whatever you say about a specific company or brand will be seen by someone that works there. Do you think that this is a good thing or a bad thing? It’s nice to be able to get a company’s attention so quickly and get a response even quicker. So for now, I’ll continue to complain about my web hosting on Twitter. How about you? What web hosting service do you use?

    It’s very nice that Godaddy has representatives trying to help and save customers from leaving, and it’s great that they did solve your problem.

    In my experience though, with an empty wordpress installation, it was their server that was the cause of slowness, not the script. It should not take seconds to run, and it doesn’t – at some other hosts. Just my experience of course. I cancelled my account with them yesterday. I was using it only to judge their service, otherwise I would have left ages ago.

    Currently I use shared hosting from Hostgator and a VPS from Liquidweb. Great choices both of them, but I don’t know if they’re using Twitter much. :P
