Twitter Clones and Competitors On The Rise | 3 To Check Out [List]
Have you taken notice to all the new Twitter clones & competitors popping up lately? I can understand the need for a Twitter killer since I really am sick of even hearing about Twitter but, as addicted as most people are I sadly can’t see it happening anytime soon.
Of course, that doesn’t stop people from trying. Here are just a few of the new micro-blogging services trying to cramp Twitter’s style. These have all popped up within the last month.
Jisko (Beta) – An open source micro-blogging service that provides instant relation by short messages (called notes) between your friends & supports many languages.
You can even integrate your Twitter account. Just add your account at the “Twitter tab” and you’ll be able to keep up with your Twitter followers. In my opinion, the Twitter integration is a sneaky way to try to get people leave Twitter!
You can update your Jisko status from quite a few places. If you want, you can simply go to Jisko.net, log in using your username, password, and write your note. A few other ways include their Jabber bot, mobile site, mobile application, or desktop client (soon). I haven’t joined this one yet but from hearing some of the features, it sounds promising.
Rejaw (Alpha) – A new way to communicate in real-time with friends, family, and co-workers. You can shout messages to your followers, or whisper to your friends. The unique thing about Rejaw is that their first desktop application is for Mac (not Windows). Rejaw Radar is a desktop application that keeps you up-to-date with the latest shouts, whispers and replies on Rejaw.
I took the time to join Rejaw & so far I love it. The design & colors are very unique, though some may beg to differ. I like the fact that I can view unread shouts separately from all shouts; it helps me to keep up with what I’ve missed. Their commenting system is similar to Pownce & is displayed as a threaded discussion. Every shout or whisper has a permanent URL so it’s easy to link directly to a conversation. Shouts & whispers are closed when there is no activity for 3 days, which makes them static archives.
You can also embed images & videos right into your shouts & whispers (another similarity to Pownce). Another neat thing is that you can invite friends to join your conversation by sending them the permalink to your shout. Anyone can join the conversation, even if they don’t have an account on Rejaw.
Mytalk.at (Beta) – A smaller version of a blog, limiting posts to 1000 characters with link, photo, video & also supports many languages (like Jisko). You can connect with friends by sharing short messages called a “topic” post. Images & videos can also be embedded into posts & a link to the item is posted underneath it.

Mytalk.at is a place to discuss and share what is in the best interests of you. The best thing about Mytalk.at is that it supports Google Adsense and widget codes. (ex: Google adsense, Google analyst, etc). So, you can monetize your Mytalk.at page with your own Google ads if you’d like. I haven’t joined this one but from what I can tell, it’s not very feature rich (yet).
Out of these 3, I think that Rejaw may have the better chance of taking over. First & foremost though, I feel that people need to wake up & venture out from Twitter to actually give these services a try. Which one seems the most promising to you?
