Hey you! Yes YOU! Get off Facebook! Use Stayfocusd!

Hey you, yes you. Get off of Facebook/Hulu/YouTube/Netflix

The clock is ticking. You have procrastinated this assignment for days now. You don’t have much time left. But, you can’t help yourself. You log on to Facebook. Big mistake. You then spend the next couple of hours browsing through the photo albums of friends, commenting on statuses, and writing on walls. After your forget what you got online to do, you start watching a couple of YouTube videos and then you watch an episode of your favorite show on Hulu. You shut down your laptop and go to sleep.

The next morning you wake up in a panic realizing that you didn’t finish your assignment that was due. You thought that you had enough time to finish, but you realize that you spent all of the extra time-wasting time on many different sites. You run to class and try to explain to the professor. The professor has a strict “no-late work” policy, and will not take your assignment late.

I am sure that has happened to all of us at least once. You get online to do a homework assignment, and then hours later, after surfing the web, you haven’t done any of your homework. This is a problem that is affecting everyone, from students, to professors, to professionals.  There is a solution to this problem. It is called Stayfocusd. (And no, I did not forget the ‘e’ on focused). This is a great Google Chrome extension that can help even the most unfocused of students.

Stay Off of Facebook - Use Stayfocusd

You must first download, or begin using Google Chrome. You’ll be thankful that you did. The way that it works is quite simple. When you first get the extension. You can start to add preferences. There are certain sites, like YouTube, Facebook, etc. that you can block for as long as you need to. The nice thing is that you can specify when you need to block them. So if you know that you want to study from 5-8 pm everyday, you can specify on the preferences that is the time you want Stayfocusd to start working. Once you set the times you want it to work, you can start choosing the sites that you want to block.

If you are one that can’t be without your Facebook, you can tell Stayfocusd to only let you be on Facebook for 15 minutes. Once the 15 minutes are up, you can’t access Facebook anymore. Once you get on a blocked site, if you have allotted a certain time for the blocked sites, there will be a timer on the right hand corner telling you how much time you have left.

This extension is very useful. It really helps you identify how much time you actually spend on certain sites. Sometimes you don’t realize how long getting on Facebook for little bit, or just watching one video takes. Once you download this extension. You will be glad that you did. Your grades will also thank you.
