Why You Should Be Using Google Authorship

Google authorship really came to the attention of the mainstream SEO and online marketing communities in 2012 though even now in 2013 it’s still not totally understood or implemented by many people who are supposed in the know.

So how can you actually put Google authorship to use and what benefits will it have for your site and your rankings?

It Won’t Just Benefit Your Site

If you run a website or are a major contributor to one then you should remember that Google authorship won’t just benefit the site that your content is on but it will also benefit you as an individual. Put simply an author rank is a recording of the relationship between the content that you have produced, wherever that may be and your Google+ page. That means that you get the credit for the content that you produce not the website, so why’s that important?

Sites Can Change Hands

Imagine that you have your own site, which you probably do, and you create lots of great content on it, but then one day you decide to sell it. If you start-up a new site and you don’t have Google authorship then it will be like you’re starting from scratch and all of that great content that made you an authority within your industry will have gone to waste. Google authorship means that you will get the credit for your work and it also means that the site you sold can’t dine out on the good work that you did. The new owners will have to produce equally good and engaging content to maintain its success, or at least that’s Google’s aim anyway.

It Improves Your CTR

It has been found that a search result with Google authorship is 3 times more likely to be clicked than one without. This is because people trust in Google and if they say that you are an expert in your field then that authority is enough to convince people to click on your search result.  The psychological impact of having a human face to put to a website or article should not be underestimated.

It’s A Link To Your Other Work

Another advantage of having Google authorship is that in the search result Google will also show people other content that you have created which acts as link and an incentive to read more of what you have produced. Obviously this can have a tremendous impact on the amount of visitors to your site and further increase your reputation as an authority in your field.

There are a lot of plus sides to having Google Authorship and it’s pretty easy to set up once you know how so what are you waiting for, get the credit you deserve for your awesome content and enhance your reputation across the internet.
