Finding the Perfect Laptop Stand

Right now I am trying to find the perfect laptop stand for my new Macbook Pro. Even though you wouldn’t think of this is a touch decision, in my case it really is. I always have a hard time choosing the right kind of products because I want it to be perfect, and I want to be 100% satisfied.

What are some things that you should look for when finding the perfect laptop stand? Let’s take a look and see.

Size

Well this is important and of course depends on where you will be using the stand. You don’t want a really wide or extra long stand if your going to be using it in bed. Likewise, don’t want a tiny table if you’re going to be using it while sitting on the couch. You also don’t want something heavy to use in bed since you will have to lift it up to use and to put away. On the other hand, a heavy rolling stand to use at the couch would be perfectly fine. I am mainly looking for something that I can use in bed, so I want it to be on the smaller, lighter side.

Features

Do you want something with an extra writing area, cup holder, mouse holder and shelf, or are you looking for something more simple? This depends on how you will use the stand. If you’re going to use it as a mini desk for sitting on the couch and watching TV, then you will probably want something with extra room and definitely a cup holder. For me, who will be using it in bed, I need something more simple and doesn’t take up too much room. I don’t think my husband would be too happy if it took up his half of the bed too!

Also, there are some stands that come with fans and even an attached light. Is this something you really need or would it just be a waste? The more features a stand has, the more money it is going to cost — which leads us to my next point.

Price

This is a biggie for me; it’s all about the budget. Times are tough now with the economy so if splurging on a $200 laptop stand is going to cause you to miss a few bills, then you probably should not buy it! Most people now have tight budgets and will want to stay within a low price range. You don’t want the stand to be something really cheap and will not last, but you don’t want it to be overly expensive either.

Height

This one is a given but I thought I’d mention it anyway. It’s important to know if you want a tall, short or adjustable stand. If you want to be able to use it in more than one location, then adjustable would definitely be your best bet so that you can adjust it to your level. If you’re only going to use it in bed, then a short one will do just fine.

Now that you know what to look for when purchasing a laptop stand, be sure to share your favorite laptop stand or table type in the comments! Hopefully this list will come in handy for all you college students out there on your way back to school this fall, and shopping around for dorm essentials. Be sure to add a laptop stand to your shopping list and use this article to pick the perfect one!

My biggest problem when shopping for any item, isn’t that it must be perfect.

It must also fit my minuscule budget.

    You’d be surprised how much of a do-it-yourself-er I’ve become! :)

Hi Cha, I’ve had my Macbook Pro for a few years now and for most of that time I’ve had a couple of laptop stands in my Amazon wishlist.

I do already have a Port Designs lapdesk with a built-in mousepad, which is really just a platform to ensure my legs don’t burn.

    I’m considering:
    3M vertical adjustable http://is.gd/dKeN1
    Kensington Easy Rider: http://is.gd/dKeXn

I’m sure I read something you wrote about the Might Mouse, but I can’t find it now. Personally I had a wireless Microsoft mouse that was quite good, although bits of rubber did come off it and it eventually quit altogether. Now I have a cheap ASUS USB mouse. I would like a Mighty Mouse, I love the design and the features and maybe I’ll get it sometime, but it is an expensive mouse, but it’s worth it if I keep it for a long time.

I did find one mouse a while ago called the Logitech MX Revolution which is like the ulitmate of all mice and the price refelcts it. But more features means more can go wrong, so I’m not sure. I think I prefer the reliability and innovation from Apple, which with a multitouch mouse can have unlimited software based features, so they can be upgraded over the life of the mouse. Take a look at that MX Revolution: http://is.gd/dKfrr
