As most know, I am indeed a social media tools & gadgets addict. So, once again I’m admitting that I’m totally addicted to & in love with Adobe Air applications. As lightweight as they are, who wouldn’t love these little applications?
Because of my new found obsession with Adobe Air, I decided to make a list of Adobe Air Applications that are great for social media users, minus the Twitter only applications of course (I’m sure we all know about those already).
In my opinion, these are really the most beneficial & worth at least giving a try. If you know of any other good social media related Adobe Air applications, I’d love to hear about them.
If you use Facebook a lot then you’re in luck; there are quite a few Facebook Adobe Air applications including the following three.
Facedesk – An application that becomes a stand-alone application to do all your Facebook surfing with. No need to open it up in a web browser. If you are not very fond of the new Facebook layout, unlike myself, you’ll be happy to know that this application is currently still showing the old Facebook layout; I’m not sure if/when it will display the new Facebook layout.
Zebr – Shows at a glance the status messages of your Facebook friends & provides a quick & easy way to update your own status message. Zebr also notifies you of new wall posts, messages and more. In my opinion, it’s pretty much a standalone version of the “Digsby style” of Facebook.
Flair – Stay in touch with your Facebook friends all through the day. Flair lets you know whenever you’re poked, or someone writes on your wall, or adds you as a friend. This one pretty much sounds the same as Zebr.
If you use YouTube a lot, you’re in luck too. There are also quite a few YouTube Adobe Air applications; here are a few that seem to stand out.
YouTube Widget – This widget lets you view or search for YouTube videos. You can also browse through the top rated, top favorites or view the videos of a user right from the widget.
DeskTube – Another YouTube application for viewing videos. You can either search by keyword/category, or enter a user name & also change color schemes. DeskTube also allows you to post comments on videos & view the users profile of the currently playing video. From there you can view all the videos the user has uploaded.
FLVPlay – A free application providing functionality to search and view YouTube’s video collection, as well as download video assets to the desktop and mobile devices instantly.
Doppelganger – A lightweight, drag and drop download manager for online videos. Doppelganger allows you to download a video without visiting its page first. Anywhere there’s a link to the video’s page, simply drag the link to Doppelganger and the download will begin. At the moment, Doppelganger only supports YouTube videos, but will accommodate more sites in future releases.
If you’re a micro-blog lover, here a few Adobe Air applications that will really catch your attention.
Alert Thingy – Alerts from all your favorite sites delivered to your desktop via FriendFeed. Connect to your FriendFeed account, share links, messages & comment on items right on your desktop.
Posty – A micro-blogging application which allows posting to Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, Tumblr, FriendFeed & Identi.ca with one click. It also features browsing of personal/public posts and note replies.
Tumblweed – Allows you to create and view your Tumblr blog from your desktop. Tumblweed supports the creation of any Tumblr posts & adds features like drag-and-drop photo uploads and progress bars for uploading content.
Social Addict – What SocialAddict does is loads the mobile or iPhone version of each site for easy access. These are all previously available applications that have been tied together to make it quick and easy to go from one to the next. Social Addict currently supports: BrightKite, Facebook, FriendFeed To Go, Hellotxt, Jaiku, MySpace, Ping.fm, Plurk, Pownce, SocialThing! & Twitter; that’s a lot of sites!
Pownce Desktop 2.0 – The desktop software makes it even faster to read and send Pownce notes to your friends. Some of the great features includes: auto-updating every 60 seconds, new notes alerts, progress bar for sending notes, saving favorite notes for later, managing your friends & saving custom preferences.
Lastly, here a few random Adobe Air applications that are very useful & convenient to have around.
SnurlIt – A desktop url shortener; perfect for IRC, IM & Email. You can choose to have a Snurl, Snipr, or TinyURL link.
Shrink O’Matic – A fast way to easily batch & re-size (shrink) images; it handles JPGs, GIFs and PNGs. Simply drag and drop images and they’ll be re-sized as you wish. Options allow you to choose the output sizes, names and formats.
Snackr – A ticker-like desktop widget that pulls random items from your RSS feeds and scrolls them across your screen. Snackr can be docked to different sides of your monitor, or put on a secondary monitor so it doesn’t overlap your other windows.
OxyReminder – If you’re a social media addict and/or Internet junkie like myself (I’m both), then you probably sit at the computer all day long without getting up for a break. Well now, you’ll be forced to take a break with OxyReminder. It reminds you every 2 hours to get up & stretch. My friend Da Vinci & I both decided to give it a try & so far, we’re loving it.
Apprise Reader – A stand-alone RSS reader. Apprise isn’t about just reading all your news on one place; it’s also about sharing your news all in one place. With built-in AIM and Twitter support, all you have to do is click on a article to start it cascading through your social network.
Websnapshot – Enter any url & press snap or drag & drop it from your browser. With auto-save checked, the thumbnails are immediately saved to your ’save’ folder. Select the type of Snapshot you want to make: thumbnail, browser size, or full page. You can tailor the way the snapshots are taken in the Preferences pane.
There are a lot of Adobe Air applications around right now; which ones do you prefer?

Nice list of a Adobe AIR applications for social media users!
You might want to check out Curlgraph which is written in Curl Nitro. Nitro provides the same capabilities as Adobe AIR but also supports plain-old-RIA. Anyway, the Curlgraph allows you to visualize your Facebook friend network using graphics – its pretty cool if I say so myself.
Here is a review of Curlgraph from ReadWriteWeb.com

Thanks Richard! This sounds very interesting; I’ll definitely check it out.
I’d give uvLayer a look as well. They’re doing a social video experience with a great user interface.
This is an awesome list. It was forwarded around Adobe this morning, so great job!
