Add Rich Content to Your Facebook Pages with Static HTML

If you have a Facebook page that you manage, Static HTML is a new Facebook app that lets you add HTML, JavaScript and Flash to your Facebook pages. Static HTML is pretty easy to use once you get setup and will help you make a Facebook page that stands out with the addition of rich content.

Getting Started

If you have more than one Facebook page, you’ll need to select the page you want to use it with and then add it. The image below explains it all. First you’ll need to select the page from the drop-down menu and click on the “Register” button. Then you’ll need to click on the “add” button to add the actual Facebook app to your account (you’ll only need to do this part once).

Editing Your Page

You can edit your page either from going to the Static HTML Facebook app page or going to your actual Facebook page and clicking on the “Static HTML” button (which will direct you to the Static HTML Facebook app page). This sounds a little confusing with so much clicking to go here and there. I haven’t used any other Facebook HTML page apps, so I honestly don’t know if they allow you to edit from within your Facebook page or from the app page.

At any rate, you’ll then need to select your Facebook page from the Static HTML page and click edit.

Static HTML Editor

The Static HTML editor is nice because you can switch back and forth between WYSIWYG mode and HTML mode. Another cool option is that you have two editing areas. You can choose to always show the upper content (whether people have liked your page or not), or you can choose to show the bottom content to people who have not liked your page. So if you have a promotion going on and you only want people who have liked your page to be able to participate, then you can use this lower area for that.

Besides the way that you have to actually get started and get to the editor, Static HTML looks promising. I haven’t used it to edit my page yet, so I can’t vouch for the final results. If you do check it out, feel free to share your experience in the comments.
