5 Ways to Blog With Your iPad
It’s no secret how the iPad has started to shape the way we view and participate in online publishing. But up until recently, it wasn’t clear how beneficial iPad technology and applications would benefit the blogosphere as a whole. When the iPad initially launched last April, the blog publishing applications were slim at best. Since then software companies have developed several interactive publishing tools aimed at giving bloggers everything they need, and at their fingertips. While it’s not smart for any professional blogger to ditch their laptop for an iPad, there are plenty of tools available on the iPad that make life easier.
1. Adobe Digital Publishing
Though primarily used by magazines breaking into the tablet publishing market, the Adobe Digital Publishing suite offers several useful tools for bloggers. Namely, the suite includes the Folio Producer Service, which is essentially a mobile version of InDesign CS5. It allows you to optimize content for tablet and smart phone devices. This includes the iPad and iPhone as well as most Android and Windows 7-powered devices.
2. WordPress
Though a limited version of the web-based application, it still offers many of the same features. You can still manage the majority of content on your WordPress page directly from the application. This includes adding, editing and deleting pages, as well as managing all page comments and other correspondence with your readers Among the many features, the iPad WordPress app allows you to upload pictures directly from your iPad and allows for quick Geotagging in real time.
3. Dragon Dictation
One major complaint about blogging with the iPad is the awkward on-screen keyboard. One of the best alternatives to actually typing text on your iPad is the popular Dragon Dictation application. Basically, you just open the Dragon Dictation app, speak into the microphone and the application converts your audible words into text. You can then copy the text from Dragon Dictation into your WordPress app, and edit the content accordingly.
4. Analytics
No professional blogger can go long periods of time without adequate analytics software. The app is similar in design to the web-based Google Analytics application. Though like many iPad blogging apps, the Analytics app is limited, but gives you the tools you need to monitor traffic to and from your blog on the go. The app is a mere $6.99 in the iTunes store and lets you view up to 55 reports simultaneously.
5. DisqusPro
If you don’t like moderating comments directly on the WordPress web or iPad application, you can easily manage the online conversation for multiple blogs from your fingertips. Perhaps one of the most interesting features of DisqusPro is that you can actually reply directly from the application. You can even manage multiple forums simultaneously from DisqusPro.
