4 Smartphones for Busy, Tech-Savvy Students

Being an extremely busy student myself, I know how important it is to have the right smartphone or mobile device. Currently I don’t have a mobile phone, but I do have an iPad (which is almost like an over-sized iPhone). If I were to get a smartphone though, which I hope to in the next few months, it would definitely be one of the 4 listed below.

Remember, this isn’t a list of the best smartphones (I don’t think I could even choose 4 for that), it’s simply a list of smartphones that I feel would be great companions to busy, tech-savvy students like myself.

ThunderBolt by HTC

ThunderBolt by HTCI’ve wanted an HTC for a while because I’ve heard such great things about the brand. The first thing you notice about this device is that it has a stand! I’ve mainly only seen stands like this on tablet PCs. I had an Archos 101 for about 2 weeks and it had a similar stand and I can’t say enough about how helpful it was. Since smartphones are now being used for way more than calling, this stand is great for using utility and productivity apps as well as watching videos, movies, TV shows, playing games, and even social networking. It also has 4G Hotspot capability, meaning you can use it like a wireless router and connect up to 8 devices to it. With the Android OS you can get thousands of apps to choose from, so the possibilities are endless!

DROID Charge by Samsung

DROID Charge by SamsungLike the ThunderBolt, the DROID Charge can also be used at a 4G Hotspot, but it can connect up to 10 devices. It has 720p HD video capturing, so you can expect very high quality. There are apps for just about everything you could ever need and more. There are also numerous tools and capabilities already built-in, so right out the box it’s already able to help you boost your productivity. Some of the included tools and features are: calculator, alarm clock, world clock, stop watch, timer, calendar, voice commands, widgets, task manager, GPS, Amazon Kindle reader, and much more.

iPhone 4

Vodafone iPhone 4Of course this list wouldn’t be complete without a Vodafone iPhone 4. No matter how cool an Android looks, many still prefer an iPhone; it must be the apps! Android does have plenty of apps to choose from and I’m a huge fan of the OS, but there is just something about iOS apps that seem to make them superior. One of the coolest things about the iPhone 4 is that you can get it in white or black. The amount of apps for students is amazing and there is so much to choose from that it’s quite overwhelming when trying to pick the right one.

Honesty, I can’t wait until the iPhone 5 comes out. There have been so many speculations about what it will look like, that the suspense is now killing me!

Blackberry Torch 9850/9860

BlackBerry Torch 9850/9860Why this BlackBerry over the others? Well personally I prefer this one because it looks much like an Android since it is touch screen – no actual keyboard like most other BlackBerry devices. It uses the BlackBerry OS, but still offers many apps and productivity tools for students. The browser is incredibly fast and even has HTML5 support. While the 3.7” touch screen is not as large as the Androids mentioned above, it is still the largest in its league (of other BlackBerry devices). The BlackBerry OS has been updated for a smoother and faster mobile Web experience and allows you to multitask like a pro. Plus, you can sync the device with the BlackBerry Playbook (if you choose to get one).

So which would you say is the best from this list?

Personally, I’d have to go with the DROID Charge. What about you?

Do you think there is another device that should be added to this list or replace a device already on the list?

These smart phones look great but as a personal choice, I think I would choose the Samsung Galaxy S Android (either versions). It looks more appealing than the iPhone and it’s a lot more cost efficient than the iPhone.
