21 Bookmarklets To Fire Up Google Chrome [List]

logo

I just recently made the switch to Google Chrome from Firefox (due to technical issues). It gets a little bit frustrating because Google Chrome doesn’t support addons yet so, I find myself using bookmarklets a lot more now.

I figured I’d put together a little list of my favorite ones, just in case anyone else might be interested. Of course, these can be used in some other browsers as well like Firefox & Safari.

If you don’t know, bookmarklets are just bookmarks that can perform an action (thanks to javascript) such as sharing something on Facebook, digging an article, adding something to your Amazon wish list, etc.

Bookmarklets are usually saved or dragged to your browsers’ bookmarks toolbar but,  you can also create a folder on your bookmarks toolbar & then add each bookmarklet to that folder. This helps organize your bookmark toolbar so that you don’t have a long, never-ending row of bookmarlets.

Of course, it’s up to you which way you prefer. I have tested all these bookmarklets in Google Chrome & they work fine for me.

Gmail This – Allows you to email the current web page you’re on via your Gmail account.

Zenbe This – If you use the Zenbe web mail client (like myself), this will allow you to email the current web page you’re on via your Zenbe account.

Share This - Allows you to share the current web page you’re on to 20+ social bookmarking & social networking sites.
Share websites with the Share This bookmarklet.

Remember the Milk – Allows you to add a date or time that you want to remember to your Remember the Milk account.

Ping This – Allows you to ping the current web page you’re on via your Ping.fm account to numerous micro-blogging & social networking sites.

Digg This – Allows you to digg the current web page you’re on via your Digg account.

Add to Wish List – Allows you to add items from any web page to your Amazon Wish List.

Post to Diigo - Allows you to add the current web page you’re on to your Diigo bookmarks.

Diigolet – Shows a temporary Diigo toolbar that will appear at the top of your browser window. Allows you to highlight & add sticky-notes in addition to adding bookmarks to your Diigo account.

TwitThis – Allows you to tweet the current web page you’re on to your Twitter account.

Twitlet – Allows you to quickly update you Twitter status.

Pikchur – Allows you to send a picture from the current web page you’re on to various micro-blogging services via your Pikchur account.

Stumble Upon – Allows you to browse sites on Stumble Upon without the toolbar, using a temporary toolbar that will appear at the top of your browser window. Unfortunately, you are not able to sign into your Stumble Upon account so, you cannot save any favorites, etc.

Add To Delicious – Allows you to add the current web page you’re on to your Delicious bookmarks. “Extra bookmarklets” are also available to add extra functionality.

Rejaw This – Allows you to shout the current web page you’re on to your Rejaw account. Sidebar: Rejaw is a really great (my favorite) micro-blogging site with more features than Twitter & the rest of the bunch. I highly recommend that you give it a try & feel free to follow me as well!

Tumblr – Allows you to quickly post an item from the current web page you’re on to your Tumblr account.

Facebook – Allows you to share & post the current web page you’re on to your Facebook account.

MySpace – Allows you to share & post the current web page you’re on to your MySpace account.

Pownce – Allows you to share & post the current web page you’re on to your Pownce account.

FriendFeed – Allows you to share & post the current web page you’re on to your FriendFeed account.

Kwout *Personal Favorite* – Has an excellent Firefox addon but the bookmarklet works just as well. Allows you to quote a part of a web page as an image with an image map; in other words, it lets you take a screenshot of any part of the current web page that you’re on.

Kwout - Quote a part of a web page as an image with an image map.

As an added bonus, here is a bookmarklet that will let you view RSS feeds in Google Chrome (a feature that is yet to be added).

RAMisp.org has written a script that allows you to preview and subscribe to a site’s RSS feed in Google Chrome.

Now, whenever you want to preview a site RSS feed, simply click on the “Auto detect RSS” bookmark and you will see the preview of the feed on the RAMisp site.”

Thanks to from Make Use Of

Of course, there are a lot more bookmarklets out there that I haven’t mentioned here. Which ones do you use? Which ones are your favorite? Do you prefer Google Chrome over Firefox?

Thanks for all of these tips. I switched to Chrome & have been missing the addons as well ( I need delicious & tiny url). Don’t think I will be going back to FF now (memory hog problems, mainly).

Really useful stuff! How could I have missed out on bookmarklets for so long! Thanks to you, I found these, which sound useful too. (tho i should say that i havent tried them yet) http://tinyurl.com/3rpcwh

  6. [...] Once Google Chrome was released, I was attracted by it’s speed and agility. I was already tired of FireFox being so bloated with extensions anyway, so the fact that Chrome has none didn’t sway me. During the time I spent with Chrome, I amassed a collection of very useful bookmarklets. Most of them are covered in detail in 21 Bookmarklets to Fire Up Google Chrome. [...]

Hey Chacha, even though I’m not using Chrome at the moment – I’m still having my love affair with Firefox – some of these are very useful to me in FF. I am new to bookmarklets, so of course I’m very excited about this. The one I like the most in this list is the one for MySpace. It will help me to post bulletins quickly, so I may be using MySpace more now. The one for Facebook looks good too. You know I have almost abandoned both of those sites. ;P

  8. ChaCha Fance says:

Yea I agree Kelly, they work well in Firefox too. Just that in Chrome we have no choice but to use them since it doesn’t support addons! :( I abandoned MySpace a long time ago, trying to hold on to Facebook.

  9. got some unique bookmarklet here.. just getting the hang of google Chrome. thanks.

I found the Purifyr bookmarklet from Purifyr.com is truly fantastic. It literally makes reading on web enjoyable again. It takes any web page and turn it into a crisp, clean, printer-friendly page.

The paperspan bookmarklet is running fine with Chrome as well. I used to have PS bookmarklet with firefox before.
