Searchme | Visual Search Engine [Review]

In my last post I talked about Cooliris, a 3D search tool for images & videos. Well today, I came across Searchme, which is also a 3D search tool for images & videos, but you can also search for web pages as well.

In their own words:

“Searchme lets you see what you’re searching for. As you start typing, categories appear that relate to your query. Choose a category, and you’ll see pictures of web pages that answer your search. You can review these pages quickly to find just the information you’re looking for, before you click through.”

Searchme is a regular search engine just like Google or Yahoo & can be added to your installed search engines if you’d like, so that you can use it from your search box.

The coolest thing about Searchme is that you can create, save & share “stacks”. Now, I’m sure you’re wondering what a “stack” is, right? Well, when you find a page, video, or image that you like on Search me, you can create a new stack for it or add it to an existing stack of your own. Stacks are the way that you bookmark pages on Searchme and they can also be shared and embedded on other sites.

The video below does a great job of showing you exactly how to create & share stacks.

You can also check out stacks created by other Searchme users by clicking here.

Here’s a sample stack called “Geek Wishlist”. This stack gives you a general idea of how your search results would appear on Searchme.

As you can see, Searchme is a real timesaver when it comes to searches. No more clicking through numerous links trying to find the info that you want; now you can see everything up close & personal before even having to open the site.

Searchme preferences.Another great thing I noticed with Searchme is that it outlines your search words on web pages. So, if you’re searching for “funny pictures”, it will outlines those two words wherever they appear on the web page.

Searchme also had a little button at the bottom center of the site that allows you to open up the actual search results (like they would appear on Google or Yahoo) in the bottom half of the page. You can click the button to toggle the results to appear or disappear.

Lastly there’s the preferences that you can customize to your liking. You can choose to filter out adult content or not. You can choose between the day or night theme. You can choose to open links in the current window or in a new window. Lastly, you can choose to autoplay videos or not.

Searchme is currently in beta so, I’m really looking forward to see what else they will be adding in the future. So far Searchme looks very promising & it’s definitely something that I can see myself using on a regular basis. It looks like the Web is slowly changing over to 3D more & more each day.

So, what about you? Have you heard of Searchme? If so, how do you like it? If not, do you plan on trying it out?

As an added bonus, I’ve also come across another similar 3D search engine called Viewzi. It doesn’t have as many features as Seachme & the page views are smaller but, it’s worth checking out as well! Let me know what you think of this one as well. Do you like it better than Searchme?
