Socialbrowse is a great new firefox addon & sidebar that lets you share and discuss any web page with just a single click from a toolbar button. You can then access all of your shared links right from your Socialbrowse profile.
Socialbrowse actually adds 2 buttons to your toolbar (3 if you decide to participate in Socialbrowse labs). One button is for going to your profile & toggling the sidebar. The other is for choosing which category a potential share web page will go into.
When sharing a web page, you get to choose between 8 categories to classify the page into. Each category then has a few subcategories, as you can see pictured to the left. So as you can see, it’s very easy & simple to share a web page with socialbrowse & only takes about 2 seconds of your time.
You can choose to keep the Socialbrowse sidebar open & view real-time results in the sidebar or you can close it. If you decide to keep the sidebar closed, you will receive real-time results as pop-up notifications in the right corner of your screen. Don’t worry, they’re surprisingly not annoying! Personally, I prefer the pop-up notifications.
One unique thing that Socialbrowse does is that it adds tiny picture icons to any shared web page. As you can see in the screenshot to the left, I shared my Social Web Tools blog & now it shows a tiny icon with my picture to the right of the blog title. Anyone who has the Socialbrowse firefox addon & comes to my blog will see the icon there. Anyone who likes my blog can then hover over my icon, click on it to go to my Socialbrowse profile & then add me there. So, Socialbrowse is also a great way to meet new people with like interests.
These icons do not just show up on the actual web page either. Any page that has a link to a shared page, such as FriendFeed, your WordPress Dashboard, Google search (as pictured below), or anywhere else, you’ll see the icon next to it. (Special thanks to a few Greasemonkey scripts & firefox addons for being able to customize Google as pictured).
The comment bubble & number 2 next to it shows how many comments (through Socialbrowse) have been added to the web page. This is something new that has just been added to Socialbrowse & is in the beta testing stage; if you’re an early adopter, like myself, you can help test it out by heading over to the Socialbrowse labs.
Here’s just a few other features that you’ll experience with Socialbrowse:
If anyone is interesting in trying out Socialbrowse, it is in private beta so you will need an invite. I have quite a few invites left & don’t mind sharing. So, feel free to shoot me a quick message requesting one if you’d like.
So what do you think of this new tool? Does it sound like something you’d use?

SocialBrowse allows you to share any website with your friends and contacts with the click of a button, which is added to your Firefox or Flock browser. Click the button with the dialogue bubble and you can leave a comment for others to see along with the website you shared. The button with the SocialBrowse logo opens the sidebar panel, which displays the social feed for all of your friends and their online activity in real-time, so there’s no need to refresh your browser anymore.
